Mercado: Sporting entra na corrida por médio sensação da Itália
Celtic are reportedly intensifying their interest in Scotland international defender Scott McKenna, who is currently playing for Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb. According to reports from Sportske Novosti and various British media outlets, the Glasgow club has recently sent scouts to monitor the 29-year-old center-back. This isn't the first time the Hoops have eyed McKenna, as they previously launched a bid for him back in 2018, proving he remains a long-term target for the Celtic recruitment team.
The primary hurdle in the potential transfer appears to be the valuation. Dinamo Zagreb's chief scout, Tomislav Šokota, has confirmed that there is serious interest and official inquiries for the defender, but the club has slapped a £10 million (approximately €11.5 million) price tag on him. Celtic, however, are reportedly reluctant to meet that figure. Market experts suggest the Scottish champions are looking to negotiate a deal closer to the €5 million mark, hoping to leverage the player's potential desire to return to Scotland to lower the asking price.
While Dinamo Zagreb's general strategy is to retain their key assets until after the European qualifying rounds, they are aware that a substantial offer for McKenna might be too good to turn down. With several English and Scottish clubs also monitoring the situation, Celtic will need to move decisively if they want to secure the experienced defender. For McKenna, a move to Parkhead would offer a high-profile return to the Premiership and the chance to compete for silverware under the leadership of Brendan Rodgers.
